What Brought me to Holistic Veterinary Medicine?

Penny at the Beach in her later years_ed

Penny taught me so much. She was my first dog, and my heart dog.

She lived her life hard and fast for the first 13 years, then lived for another four years living with chronic pain. This was in the days when kibble was king so I had her on a Veterinary Joint Diet, metacam and that was about all that was available. Needless to say, her tummy said "no" to the metacam and all other non steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.

I found out about acupuncture for her. She responded well and had a new lease of life!

Since then, I ran an acupuncture clinic for chronic pain one day a week, this has been going for about 15 years now. Along the way I have studied about managing chronic pain using lifestyle adaptations, conventional drugs, physio, myotherapy and hydrotherapy. I subsequently added  herbal medicine, raw and minimally processed nutrition, essential oils and a more integrative approach to managing pain and other chronic conditions. I am keen to share all this knowledge with you.

tears from a blue eye

I remember the day of Penny's eventual passing like it was yesterday. She was "put to sleep" in a busy room at the veterinary surgery in which I worked, by a colleague. I remember seeing her body relax and realised how much tension she had been holding before she was given the blessed release.

I decided to add Peaceful in-Home Euthanasia to the holistic services I offer so that other families could experience a better way. Even though I have been euthanising animals for over 25 years, I sought out a 30 hour training course run by CAETA in America to find out more about the absolute best way. The best way needs compassion and empathy, minimises stress for both the pet and the family. The best way involves sedation without nauseating side effects and completely pain free delivery of the final medicine. Above all else, this means TIME - I plan for over an hour for each unhurried Peaceful in-Home euthanasia.

I have visited all of the independent Pet Crematoria in Norfolk so I can support you with any questions you may have about the aftercare.
