Surgical Castration of Dogs - Are there grounds to rethink?

The British Veterinary Association monthly journal, The Vet Record, had a supplement today - with the above title.

It is encouraging general practitioner vets to update their knowledge around castration of dogs, which is associated with an increased risk of certain diseases, including cancer and joint conditions as well as having an impact on behaviour.

The World Small Animal Veterinary Association is updating policy in this area, and the Dog's Trust and the RSPCA have shifted their policy to delay male neutering for larger breeds.

Before you decide to get your male dog castrated, ask your vet if they have read this November 2023 Supplement to the Vet Record. Do your own research and take your time when considering this irreversible amputation of a very important body part!

(The supplement is "in association with Virbac", who make the implant for chemical castration, Suprelorin)
