FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • Do you do neutering (spaying and castrating), operations and dentals?
    No, we don't offer any operations or dentistry - you will need to see your first opinion vet for those items. I can however offer unbiased, evidence based advice around neutering, and natural dental care.
  • Can I claim for complementary therapies like acupuncture & herbal medicine on my pet insurance?
    In many cases, yes you can. My P.A. Lorraine can help you with the administrative side of making a claim. We ask you to pay first, then claim back on your pet insurance to be paid to you. We cannot process direct claims, and do make a small admin charge for processing insurance claims.
  • Where are you based?
    We are located in Thorpe St Andrew, on the East side of Norwich, UK. Conveniently accessible from the A47 and the Northern Broadway.
  • Do you need my vet's consent for a euthanasia visit?
    No, You don't need consent from your regular vet for a home visit for peaceful euthanasia. You are welcome to discuss the decision making process with my PAs Lorraine or Helen, who are experienced at supporting people through the difficult decision when to say goodbye to their pet. We will let your regular vet know by sending them a report afterwards.
  • How do I know if the time is right for my pet to be put to sleep?
    Many people start thinking about the end of their pet's life many months before it actually happens. It really can help with anticipatory grief to have a plan in place well ahead of time. Contact us for a chat with Lorraine, experienced veterinary nurse, to go through all the options. Home visit or at the vets, cremation or burial, nose print or pawprints, other ways to memorialise your pet, photos to take, letting your other pets and children be part of the process, and more.
  • Does my pet need to be registered with you for home visit euthanasia?
    No, just contact us to arrange a visit, we will let your regular veterinary surgery know.
  • What are my options for aftercare for my pet?
    Home burial - ask about regulations for home burial - must be on your own land, away from watercourses, and covered by minimum 90cm soil. For an additional fee (£35) I can transport your pet to Abbey Pets Cremation Services in Rackheath, please contact them on 01603 720777 or 07771 700524 to make arrangements prior to my visit. Private cremation - some crematoriums will collect from your house, others ask that you take your pet to them. Return to your veterinary practice - if very local, and open, I can transport your pet back to your veterinary practice for them to arrange the cremation. (£35 fee applies)
  • Is there a surcharge for same day appointments?
    Not during the week, 0900-1700 . There is a £100 surcharge for weekend or evening appointments, which depend upon my availability.
